Robert Niven is a cleantech entrepreneur inspired to find profitable and sustainable solutions for the cement and concrete sectors. He is part of the global race to develop affordable and scalable carbon utilization technologies. As Founder and CEO of cleantech developer, CarbonCure Technologies, Robert has earned a reputation of uncovering innovative ways to raise profits, lower greenhouse gases and improve the material performance of concrete. His passion for developing solutions that combine sustainability and innovation has led to the development of the CarbonCure technology. CarbonCure’s technology is currently operational in more than 50 concrete plants across North America, including several of the world’s largest vertically-integrated cement and concrete companies. CarbonCure is one of 23 semi-finalists in the $20 million NRG COSIA Carbon XPRIZE challenge, and was recognized in 2016 and 2017 as one of the world's top 100 cleantech companies by The Cleantech Group.
Robert has also been the recipient of numerous awards including the 2016 Ernest C. Manning Innovation Award and Canada's 2017 Top 40 Under 40. He holds an MSc in Environmental Engineering from McGill University and a BSc in Chemistry from the University of Victoria. In his spare time, Robert is an avid outdoors enthusiast and devotes his time to nature conservation and environmental community events.
